Based off the books by J. R. R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings trilogy is made up of three live action fantasy films: LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring, LOTR: The Two Towers and LOTR: The Return of the King. They were released consecutively in 2001, 2002 and 2003 by New Line Cinema. The films are set in Middle-Earth and follow Hobbit Frodo Baggins as he and the Fellowship start on their quest to destroy the One Ring and destroy the Dark Lord Sauron.
